Construction Monitoring
During construction, the self-weight of the structure gradually increases over time. When put into use, additional loads may lead to vertical deformations and horizontal deformations (tilting) due to wind impact, affecting uneven settlement.
Therefore, if the structure experiences issues such as cracking, settlement, tilting, or when there is a need to check the quality of the construction, it is necessary to carry out monitoring work.

Purpose of Construction Monitoring
The monitoring of settlement and tilting of structures should be carried out according to a specific program for the following purposes:
- To determine the values of settlement, absolute and relative displacement of the building foundation and structure compared to the calculated values according to the design.
- To identify necessary parameters concerning the stability of the foundation and the structure.
- To make the characteristic data for the physical and mechanical properties of the soil foundation more accurate.
- To use as data for verifying calculation methods, determining allowable limits for settlement and displacement values for different types of soil foundations and various structures.
- To identify the causes of settlement and displacement and the level of danger they pose to the normal operation of the building and structure. From there, propose appropriate solutions to prevent potential incidents.
- To provide documentation for the acceptance of the construction project.
When to Perform Construction Monitoring?
- The monitoring of settlement and tilting of structures should be conducted during the construction and use of the structure until a stable state of settlement and displacement is achieved.
- Monitoring during the use of the structure is carried out when abnormalities such as large cracks are detected or when there is a significant change in the operating conditions of the structure.
During the process of construction monitoring, the following quantities need to be determined (independently or simultaneously):
- Vertical displacement (settlement, sagging, heaving).
- Horizontal displacement (lateral shift).
- Tilting.
- Cracks.
Content of Construction Monitoring Work
- Monitoring the settlement of structures:
+ Establishing a system of reference points and monitoring points.
+ Determining the number of measurement cycles for settlement.
+ Developing measurement methods.
+ Processing data and assessing the stability of reference points.
+ Preparing settlement measurement reports.
- Monitoring the tilting of structures:
+ Establishing a system of reference points and tilt measurement points.
+ Determining the location for tilt measurements.
+ Determining the number of tilt measurement cycles.
+ Processing data, calculating, and assessing the degree of tilt
